I've been part of a Sex Workers Behind Bars penpal program for a little while now, exchanging letters with two people currently incarcerated in the US. One thing I've learned is that just having someone non-judgemental to listen, even if they can't relate to what the person's going through, can make a huge difference in the isolating, dehumanizing environment of US prisons.
