Next up, a workshop session on the Viking boardgame Hnefatafl - this is an interesting one for me as I've run historical boardgame tables at conventions in the past. :)
Some more notes on tafl: - Boards vary in size by country, Irish boards usually small (7 or so tiles per side), Danish boards have 13, 19 max found - we have a good idea from archaeology of the pieces always being one king, n defenders, and 2n attackers. The original board layouts though are still unknown and the subject of experimental archaeology - we have historical images of people drinking while playing the game, and evidence of a ban on gambling while playing!
