A view of last week's conference I was at from one of the people working on campus:

Always really good to look at this stuff from the perspective of people providing the services we need to keep the conferences running. I'm just sad that I'm none of the people mentioned in this post!

@JubalBarca Hadn't put together what you were at, or I'd have pointed you at my friend Andrew Reeves, who was the Harry Potter / elves person in that post.

@po8crg Ah! Well maybe do so anyway online at some point? I'm likely to be back at one or other big medieval conference next year and knowing more people is always good :)

@JubalBarca Yeah, hadn't realised you were in anything like related fields or I'd have pointed you at each other anyway!

(I have quite a lot of friends who are history professors for various reasons)

@po8crg The thing with Kzoo and Leeds, the two big medieval conferences, is that people only need to be tangentially medieval to be there so you can be a bunch of degrees of academic separation away from someone else and still both be included. Kzoo this year had over 2600 attendees, it's *big*.

@JubalBarca Wow, that's the size of a small Worldcon or a Lib Dem conference.

@JubalBarca Andrew's a church historian - I know his book was on religious education in England, so not all that close to you.
