@arcans I'm tempted to reconsider that decision. Obviously robots.txt isn't a technical barrier in any way, and there's plenty of other ways for profiles/statuses to get indexed anyway (e.g. boosts on other instances). Still, it could prevent some harm.

Will ponder over this for a bit.

@arcans I feel like any archival even of public posts should require opt-in. Mastodon went with an opt-out approach for search engine indexing instead (added close to two years ago), which I'm not too much of a fan of (it's well-hidden) ... but it's better than nothing, I guess.

Our robots.txt used to block profiles/statuses before this was introduced, but I decided to drop that when the opt-out preference was introduced as there was no way to support both approaches at the same time.
