As much as I love seeing protests happening and participating in them, we should always be critical and ask what it will accomplish. Protests need to have a clear leadership/organization (vanguard) and a clear way to accomplish them.

We have to drop cheap enthusiasm about protests. Let's remember the massive anti Iraq War protests. They changed nothing. Still, everyone appeared happy about it. Even Bush said this is exactly why they will invade Iraq, so people there can protest too.

This left populism also portrays the rich as a group as evil/bad. This can lead to the fake anti-capitalism where you just oppose "bad capitalists". In reality, we need to understand the fundamental structure why the rich are evading taxes all the time, why they have so much wealth while others so little despite their labor and how capitalist control over our life is limiting our ability to truly approach eco-collapse, global conflicts, digital control, biogenetics, and so on.

"Vietnam syndrome" is also why America has, in the past 50 years, moved more form hot wars with a draft conscription to volunteer military personnel, extreme classification of military operations, and attempting to keep wars entirely outside of the public eye. They know that the more the public knows, the worse it is for them.

This is also why they invest so much in propaganda, such as underwriting Hollywood movies: they understand that positive marketing for the military at home is key for them to be able to keep doing, essentially, whatever the fuck they want.

lenin, booty, wars

We all rail against the capitalist war machine, but are we really ready to abolish the system and instate a new one? The left's opposition in the last decades was mostly formal, never really revolutionary. And we need to realize that we will have to take a risk if we commit to stop disasters of nature and war.

Attention, must be devoted principally to raising the workers to the level of revolutionaries; it is not at all our task to descend to the level of the “working masses.”
