There was a discussion recently of using as a more private alternative to or .

Some people think you have to self-host NextCloud, but this isn't the case.

There are many sites where you can sign up to NextCloud just like you would sign up to Google Drive or DropBox:

owndrive.com/
indie.host/
disroot.org/en/services/nextcl
etc.

Bear in mind that you have to trust the company running the site you sign up at.

@silkevicious

Yup, though that particular list is maybe for professionals and technology fans?

@switchingsocial i don't know, i don't think so.
The only thing you have to do is choose free/paid provider, consumer/business target, and also the nation where is hosted.
Seems pretty simple to me! 😉
Of course, reducing the list picking up the most famous ones is ok too!

@silkevicious

There are some easy-to-use sites listed (that's how I found the ones in the post), but they are mixed in with more difficult ones.

For example for free + consumer + world, one of the top results is:

owncube.com/index_en.php

which is maybe a bit too techie for most people?

@switchingsocial And, even better, you could use tools like Criptomator (https://cryptomator.org/) to encrypt your data before uploading to #Nextcloud :)
