Hey developers & ActivityPub enthusiasts!
@GetTogetherComm is a free open alternative to MeetUp.com.
The lead developer needs help with implementing federation, either coding or better documentation about ActivityPub.
There's an open issue for it here:
There's been discussion but no code contributions yet.
Can you help?
(It would be *so* cool to get this kind of service federated, imagine every town having its own instance )
@switchingsocial This is incredible as I was thinking of something just like this (a Meetup replacement using AP) and even had the same name (GetTogether) and it's in Django!
I know what I'll be looking at soon!
I suggest to also mention the code lang to trigger the corresponding community 👍
Yeah, sounds similar, cool to see Framasoft doing this too :)
Mobilizon is at an earlier stage but they seem to have similar goals. If they both federate with AP, then people could use both platforms at once?
@switchingsocial If the usage of AP is the same, yes !
sounds great. thought it might be great of having a chat with #hubzilla devs, as they also have implemented into their social network a function similiar to meetup and can federate via #ActivityPub (thought except the meetup function, this is done via caldav, as not supported by ActivityPub?).
would be great of having getTogether and hubzilla compatible.
@hamslap @switchingsocial GetTogether is meant to be an alternatie to Meetup, it's designed for the needs of event organizers, and being able to promote their events on social media is one of the core requirements we've received.
Anybody can host their own instance of GetTogether, and these sharing services can be turned on or off depending on that isntance's desires.
mastodon.at is a microblogging site that federates with most instances on the Fediverse.
