It depends on your individual taste, some people prefer one and some the other.

They're both free and open, they're both federated with ActivityPub, so maybe best thing is just to try them both?

@switchingsocial Any thoughts on if it could be feasible to use a static site (built using a generator like Jekyll) with ActivityPub? I'm just learning about ActivityPub and haven't really looked into how it actually works yet, so I have no idea if this is a stupid question or not.

I'd suggest taking a look at what https://indieweb.org people have, they certainly have tackled static-site vs AP problem by now.
