Wow. On the one hand it seems like just yesterday, but on the other it feels like a *lot* has happened since then.
Thank you for all the suggestions and feedback, and thank you to those who make #Alternatives that give us back our privacy. You are all heroes 👍
Happy birthday 🎉
Keep up the great work 👍
@switchingsocial I see you mention "open source" a lot, but the right term to use would be "free software" especially if your focus is about the ethics of software.
I agree that the right to distribute and alter software is really important for our freedoms online.
However, switching.social is aimed at non-technical people. To them, "free software" just means free-of-charge.
If I say free software is a good idea, then they will think any app that costs €0 is ethical 😟
First, it's not just about distributing, it's about 4 freedoms: https://fsfe.org/freesoftware/basics/4freedoms.en.html
Second, non-technical people have no idea what "open source" means either, so you might as well be using the right term to educate them.
Third, you can capitalize Free Software to make it more obvious, or call it Libre/Free Software, or FOSS, etc... there are many options.
Open source is really bad because it does not imply any kind of freedom for the end user.
@switchingsocial I just found you yesterday and I am happy for it.
I wish you could provide a multi language website so I could contribute to it for Persian language.
Hey, thank you for the offer :) 👍
If you want to do a Persian language version you can.
Switching.social is under creative commons By-SA licence, so anyone can do their own version of it, translate it or use it on their own site.
I would prefer that each langauge has its own site and maintainer, because they will know best which resources are good in their langauge.
@switchingsocial Great to have you here! You are basicly like a short format news/journalist like thing for me to hear about or see new stuff in the free, libre & opensource world and the fediverse!
Thank you for everything so far!
@ChrisTalleras Glad to help!
