I'm delisting the switching.social handbook at the end of next week (Sunday 9th June), so if you want to buy a copy now is your final chance:
@switchingsocial what's the reason for delisting?
No big reason, just many different small reasons that have accumulated over the past few months.
For example, one concern is if an alternative goes bad, the book is still out there on people's ereaders continuing to recommend it.
@switchingsocial that make sense. Do you plan to have other ways to support your work?
@switchingsocial I'd be up to support you in non book ways if you do :)
Thanks, deeply appreciated
There are no plans at the moment, but I will let you know if things change.
Thank you for buying!
That's an interesting idea, I'll consider it 👍
@switchingsocial but you’re locked into the Kobo app?
Nope, it's a DRM-free ePub file, you can use it on any software or hardware you want.
It's not tied to anything.
@switchingsocial where do I find the download link? I was hoping it would be emailed to me. The thing is, I forgot my password and password reset does not work, so now I’m stuck. Not your fault tho. Still looking forward to read it. I’ll get it fixed.
@to1ne I've messaged you :)
Does the book contain any content not on the website?
Yes, it's mostly stuff that isn't on the site, general articles about privacy that are maybe too long for a website.
I tried to make the book complement the website rather than replace it. If you just want alternatives, they are all listed on the site.
The book is mostly just going into more depth about why particular kinds of alternatives are a good idea.
I don't know if it suits the website format, because the articles are quite long. I'm guessing most people would prefer a summary, which is already what the website is.
Thank you! 👍
@switchingsocial Glad I saw this post, just picked up a copy!
I just purchased your book.
Thanks for writing it! 😃
Thank you for buying! 👏
@switchingsocial Any chance of a physical publication (as a fundraising stunt)?
I did look at it originally but the economics don't really work for a short physical book :(
