As you may have noticed from recent boosts, @pixelfed now has "remote follows".

In case you're wondering what it is, is a free open alternative to Instagram, designed for privacy-friendly photo sharing.

You can now follow Mastodon accounts from Pixelfed, and Pixelfed accounts from Mastodon.

Some good servers to sign up on:

Remote follows mean wherever you sign up, you can follow people from other servers 👍

@switchingsocial @pixelfed I've heard about it. Hard to find folks... a few accounts you recommend? do hashtags work there?

Not sure how to connect it to my mastodon...

@jrss @pixelfed

The "hard to find" should be solved by remote follows, as they let people discover and interact with accounts on other servers more easily.

(Previously, you could follow Pixelfed from Mastodon but not vice versa, and PF servers didn't communicate either.)

@switchingsocial How are their moderation tools? Have they improved at all?

@switchingsocial @Cobalt We have quite a few moderation/safety tools

- Mute
- Block
- Users can block domains
- Advanced Private Mode
- Costars
- Comment Content Warnings
- Unlist account from timelines
- Add CW to all account posts
- Prevent autolink on all account posts
- We block temporary/ephemeral email hosts

and more!

Not yet, Pixelfed is working on an app API.

The mobile version of the site should work pretty well in the meantime.
